Welcome
to Our 2011-2012 Professional Season:
Building a Community Together
Welcome to our eighth season of entertainment
here at the FAC! This year’s theme, “Building A Community Together,” demonstrates
how we can each play a role in our community to give back to kids
and families. We are currently meeting our main mission: providing
opportunities for students of Forest Hills Public Schools to experience
the Arts, with over 92% of our annual usage dedicated to our students
and staff. But we are also extremely excited to provide a professional
season for our greater community, along with our one-of-a-kind Artist-In-Residence/Exhibit
Program.
While we have accomplished much in our short
seven years, we didn’t
want to stop with our professional season or exhibits, we wanted
to do more to give back to families in West Michigan. So, we are
pleased to introduce four organizations to you throughout this season
who are devoted to children, families, and providing opportunities
for individuals with special needs. Not only will you have a chance
to learn more about these organizations, but you will see that our
season is family-focused with a wide-variety of entertainment that
has something for every age.
In the past seven years we have generated over 3
million dollars in revenue that supports the professional season,
Artist-In-Residency (A.I.R.) and Exhibit Program. This would not
have been possible without the generous support of our patrons, staff,
students, families, community partners and donors. We thank you for
your generosity of spirit and for your commitment to the arts right
here in the heart of our community.
It’s going to be an incredible season
and a wonderful eighth year of operations and we are looking forward
to sharing it with you!

Community
Partners
Reflecting the Forest Hills
community’s spirited dedication to the arts – and
made possible through a special bond referendum approved
in 2000 – The Forest Hills Public Schools Fine
Arts Center (FAC) was created to enhance the artistic
growth and enjoyment of area youth, families and
community members. This year’s theme, Building
A Community Together, reflects the Center’s
ongoing desire to work with local agencies and organizations
that support the arts and families. In a first-year
initiative, the 2011-2012 season will include four
local organizations that provide valuable services
to children, families, and our community. We want
to introduce these incredible organizations to you
throughout the season and hope that by partnering
with them we can share in the common goal of helping
kids.
Ronald McDonald
House
The Ronald McDonald House
of Western Michigan provides a “home away
from home” for families with children who
are critically ill. Since opening our doors in
1990, we’ve helped more than 10,000 families.
We partner with local hospitals to keep families
together during an unimaginably difficult time.
Often, these families live far away from the hospital
and can’t pay for an extended hotel stay.
The House affords parents the ability to focus
on what’s really important during their child’s
health crisis – not preoccupied with the
worries of temporary housing, meals or transportation. To
make a donation today, go to Wmrmh.org/donate.
Helen DeVos Children's
Hospital
The only one of its kind
in West Michigan, Helen DeVos Children’s
Hospital is a comprehensive children’s hospital
dedicated to providing world-class care to every
child who walks through our doors, regardless of
their ability to pay. Kids are not little adults.
Most arrive here with complex conditions that demand
specialized knowledge, highly trained staff and
unique medical equipment. Children require more
personalized care and a higher nurse-to-patient
ratio. Similarly, some kids are too young to express
themselves. We have staff with special communication
skills who can recognize when kids are in distress
or in pain. Because it simply cost more to care
for children we rely on philanthropy to save kids’ lives,
provide hope and comfort and help keep children
safe and healthy. To make a donation today, go
to Helendevoschildrens.org/give.
Kids' Food Basket
Kids' Food Basket ensures children in our
community do not go to bed hungry. One in four Michigan children
goes hungry every day, and Kids’ Food Basket is working
to change that. Kids' Food Basket attacks childhood hunger by
providing nutritious evening meals to food insecure children
and engaging our community through volunteering and education.
Kids’ Food Basket is the only organization in greater Grand
Rapids focused solely on childhood hunger. Each sack supper is
powered by the love and support of our community. By partnering
with individuals, families, businesses, food resources, other
nonprofits, schools and teachers, Kids' Food Basket helps ensure
that lunch is not the last meal of the day for 5,000 kids in
greater Grand Rapids. Learn more at Kidsfoodbasket.org.
Pursuing A Dream
There are nearly 55 million disabled people
in the United States. Unfortunately, their opportunities to take
part in outdoor activities are often limited and sometimes non-existent.
Pursuing A Dream events are designed to overcome barriers that
prevent or limit the disabled from enjoying outdoor activities.
Each event promotes education, healthy living, sportsmanship,
self-esteem, recreation and awareness. Learn more about this organization
at Pursuingadream.org.
